LTTE Banned

The government has banned the LTTE. The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday, on a proposal submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The ban enables the prosecution of people and organisations that fund the LTTE.

Indian Police have arrested MDMK Chief Vaiko on Thursday on the charge of making "highly inflammatory speeches supporting the LTTE. Sri Lanka to raise US$300mn syndicated loan

Sri Lanka has called proposals for a 300 million US dollar syndicated loan, with another 150 million US dollars now being negotiated, the government's debt office said. President Mahinda Rajapaksa ruled out negotiations with the LTTE, saying the military would soon destroy the LTTE and end the war. SLT launches IPTV

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), the island's largest fixed access provider, has launched Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) with a target of reaching 7,000 customers by year end, officials said.
